 something about MYself

Hi!

My name is Martina, I’m 13 years old, my zodiac sign is Gemini. My birthday is on 28th May and so soon, I will be 14! My favourite colour is white because it is clear and fresh. I like very much white things, too. I haven’t a favourite singer because I like every type of music.

I live in Bozzolo with my mother; I have no brothers and no sisters. My father lives away with a new family. Bozzolo is my hometown, a little city near Mantova, in the North of Italy. I like very much Bozzolo because even if it has only about 4.000 inhabitants, it has got an hospital, a train station, two big supermarkets and four schools; in fact I go to school there for the last year because in 2021 I’m going to Mantova to attend the high school.

I live in a very nice house with a lot of green, my grandfather was a florist and so he comes often to my house to keep the garden. I live in a modern detached house with ten rooms; my favourite room is the living room because it is very big and well-lit. In this part of the home I do everything: I cook, I study, I watch tv, I play with my games, I read a book, I play the guitar…

Since February, we have lived under quarantine because there is a health problem in the World, the Covid-19, a very contagious virus. We have seen this problem also in the UK through a video posted in padlet, a very real and actual video that describes all the English words we can use to talk about this sanitary emergency. People have been in lockdown for weeks and now, they can go outside their homes but they use face masks and there are social distancing measures between people. Many people, my mother too, works at home and also the school is closed, in fact I can do the lessons only on line. Every morning I get up at 7 am and I do the school online, I have lunch and then I do my homework.

I am happy because my family and my friends feel good but I’m impatient to meet my friends again and to return to school. I went to my classroom every day four months ago and I met my friends. I rode my bike and I went to the cinema but now I stay at home and I can play only in my garden alone. Every day I call some of my friends with the smartphone: we can’t have a touch but we can keep our relations in another way.

These days I’ve learned to cook (I have cooked a lot of pizza and cakes!) and to use the computer to do a lot of things, also to do gymnastics. Technology is a very important help these days but sometimes it can be a problem. For example, one day I was at home alone and the computer didn’t work; I felt worried because I had a lesson. Fortunately, I called my aunt and she helped me. Recently I’ve started guitar lessons with a friend of mine and we play the guitar online together every Thursday afternoon.

I think that the most important job in this period is the doctor because he takes care of all contaminated people and he saves their lives. In my opinion, these days also policemen and teachers are necessary because they work to help people to continue their normal life even if there is a serious sanitary emergency. I want to thank all of them!

In my future, I am going to be a journalist because I think that it is the most interesting job that I know. In fact, a reporter travels a lot and he knows everything about each population. Also in this moment I can see that this job is very important because every day on TV people can hear the news of the day about the emergency. I think that a journalist has a big responsibility in what he says, too.

After this period of self-isolation, I am going to meet my friends because I haven’t seen them since February and also because it will be my birthday. Then, I think I am going to my cousin’s home in Mantova because she has got a new baby and I would like to play with her.

I think next summer I’m not going to go on holiday because the virus is still present. Luckily, last year I went to UK for 15 days. I visited London and Wales. It was a beautiful travel because I saw a lot of museums, parks and churches like Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, the Piccadilly Circus… the weather wasn’t very nice because every day it rained but it was a special holiday. I felt excited!

I think that lockdown measures have positive consequences on the environment. People stay at home and all the industries are closed, nature is the protagonist of the planet and the pollution is reducing; in fact, the pollution rate in the biggest cities of the World is the lowest since many years. In fact, I promise that after this period I will go to my grandparents’ house only by bicycle and not by car. The distance between our houses is about one kilometre and the car is not necessary so I hope that I will help the environment.
